Marriage licenses may be purchased in Gonzales or Donaldsonville and can be used anywhere in the state of Louisiana. The only restriction is the license must be purchased at least three days before the ceremony and the ceremony has to be held within 30 days of issuance.

Both parties must be at least 18 years old. Otherwise, depending on the applicants age, the marriage must be approved by both parents and/or a judge.

The fee for a standard marriage license is $27.50. (CASH ONLY) Covenant marriages require proper documentation and a $37.50 fee. (CASH ONLY)

Also required for both applicants:

• Birth certificate
• Social Security Number
• Both parents names, including mother's maiden name and the state parents were born
• Number of this marriage. If not a first marriage, month and year of how last marriage ended (ex. death, divorce)
• Highest grade completed in school

NOTE: Certified copies of a marriage license may be purchased 10 days after the ceremony for $5.00 each.
